Oh The Whoa

I've been getting ready for my first author signing in January and I'm so excited. Seriously I wish I could find a unicorn right now so I could make it rain glitter (god I love glitter) everywhere. I am also going to be releasing the third and final book in my At Death It Begins series and in that vein I've been working on swag to bring to my signing. So before I share with you some of the awesome stuff I've been making I figured I should first show you the cover for After Death.

Yep I'm in love

Delete schmelete

As a writer, obviously I spend my time writing. I know I know who have thunk it, but I do. However, a lot of the words end up changed, or deleted. I've removed whole chapters from the books I write. Sure I liked the words I wrote and the scene I created but sadly, sometimes a part just no longer works with the story and you have to delete. So I'm calling this Delete Friday and showing you some of the gems (and not so gemmy) stuff I've deleted.

This was a scene from In Death's Touch that was deleted because it didn't make a darn bit of sense.

“Get in the car,” he said.
“No,” I said crossing my arms and keeping my feet planted on the sidewalk. “There’s no way in hell I’m going anywhere with you, let alone spending another fucking second with you. you lying, kidnapping sack of—”
“If you don’t get in the car, I cannot guarantee your safety or your boy—”Devin kept staring and smiling at all the faces coming and going from the store and dropped his voice, “—his safety.”
He unlocked the car and got in. I remained firmly planted on the sidewalk. Like I could trust a word out of his mouth. He drugged me for crying out loud. Devin glared at me through the windshield and started the car.
If nothing else, I at least needed to find out what the hell was going on. I didn’t give a shit about his side of the story but I needed to know everything before I could figure out my next move. With a reluctant hand I opened the passenger door and got in.
Devin maneuvered the (Lincoln) out of the parking lot into the flow of oncoming traffic. “Look, I didn’t do this to spite you, but I didn’t know what else to do.”
“Fuck, I don’t know talk to me maybe, tell me how you feel. Anything is better than kidnapping someone. Tell me how. What in the world did you give me to erase my mind?”
“A form of Metyrapone that’s been altered, so instead of making you forget bad memories it makes you forget all memories. I only gave you enough to forget Callum and nothing more.”
“Oh, well then I’m grateful.”
“You gave me no choice.”
“Oh, so this is my fault?” I tried to remain calm but the pitch in my voice escalated as the weight of the last few days came over me. I’d made out with Devin, their were pictures of it all over the pages of more than a few big tabloids. “Dammit! How could you do this to me? This is way worse than lying.”
“Lend I’m—”
“Don’t call me that, only my friends call me that and you are not my friend, you’re nothing to me.”
Devin mouth’s quivered, but he didn’t respond or let on that my words hurt. When he came to a stop at a red light, I debated jumping out, but Devin gave me a pre-emptive, “Don’t bother, the child safety is up on your side.”
Great I was trapped. I should have trusted my gut when it told me to run back at the hotel, and now it was too late. “Please Devin, if you ever felt anything for me, don’t do this, drop me off here and I won’t say a word.”
He pulled to a stop at the light and turned to look at me, “I’m not doing this to hurt you, I’m doing this because it’s the only way I know how to save you.”
That sounded like a line from one of his cheesy rom-coms. This had nothing to do with me, he didn’t give a shit about me, this had to do with Callum. Apparently, Callum’s hate for Devin was reciprocated. This was Devin pounding his chest and trying to maintain the alpha-male role.
“Do you even have a plan? or was getting me away from Callum as far ahead as you thought?”
“I’m taking you to my uncle, a man who will help to debug you.”
“Oh my god I haven’t been brainwashed.”
“How else do you explain sticking around leeches.”
“The same fucking way I explain ever being with you.” My head dropped against the car window. I tapped my foot, my wedges could easily break the glass. But I’d have to be fast. My fingers tapped against the armrest, maybe at the next stoplight.
“Lendyn you don’t understand, I didn’t have a choice.”
“We all have choices.”
He shook his head, “I didn’t.”
“Okay, tell me, please what possibly made you think kidnapping and drugging me was better than leaving me the hell alone.”
“I can’t, but you have to trust me, I didn’t want this.”
“Whatever, I’ll never trust you again.”
The next light stayed green, and so did the one after that. We didn’t get another red light. It’s as if the fates were conspiring to keep me stuck in the car with the detestable Devin. Three more lights and then we were headed out of whatever city we were in and rolling through the countryside. My second chance at escape was gone, and Devin was going way to fast for me to risk jumping from a moving vehicle.
In what deluded world did Devin think what he was doing was the right answer, the only answer.
“Where are we headed?”
“To see my uncle.”

“Who’s your uncle?”

I'm still cringing.

Glitter, glitter everywhere

I love GLITTER & RHINESTONES!! There I said. It may even be considered an addiction by some. You can ask any of my friends, my cousin, mom, sister even my hubby can attest to my glitter/rhinestone fetish. I mean come on anything in life can be made better with glitter and rhinestones. [[No joke I want a bedazzler but the hubs won't let me because according to him couches covered in rhinestones are not comfy to sit one. Booo :( ]]

Well I recently made friends with an awesome author by the name of Ella Fox, you can find her here ..http://authorellafox.com/. Not only has Ella been a wealth of knowledge for me as I try to navigate the indie author world (she's an amazing lady always there to help and she has a fantastic sense of humor) but she too has a glitter fetish and told me about something so awesome I almost pooped ... are you ready? Here it is ....

Yes those are indeed wine glasses done in glitter. Absolutely gorgeous! And they inspired me to create my own. Ella was kind enough to send me the links to several youtube tutorials and then walked me through how she did it.
Here are the steps to making your own beautiful, glittery wine glasses.

WHAT YOU'LL NEED:
set of wine glasses (you can use ones you have or hit up your local thrift shops or dollar stores)
modge podge (any local craft store will carry)
Krylon Acrylic Spray or Triple T
super fine glitter (Martha Stewart makes a fantastic set of super fine glitter)
painters tape

1. First you have to pick your design. I decided for my first time I'd go simple and just do the stem of the glass. Then using a paint brush cover the area in modge podge
2. once the area is covered in modge podge coat the glue in glitter. You will need to repeat this step 3-4 times in order to get good coverage. Give it about 20 minutes between coats
3. After you apply the final coat let it dry overnight.
4. once the glitter modge podge layers are thoroughly dry cover the glass that doesn't have glitter with tape so that the spray doesn't get on this part.
5. With the glittered area uncovered spray 2-3 coats of your sealing spray making sure to wait about 30 minutes between coats
6. After you apply the final coat again let the glasses dry for 24 hours.

AND VOILA MINE ...

Wishful Thinking

You probably didn't know this but I wrote a YA book many many moons ago and after a long shelf life it's finally going to be released into the wild world of books. Wishful Thinking which is my books very colorful name will be available for purchase on 9-1-14. Without further ado here is its glorious cover and synopsis.

Synopsis:
Seventeen year old James Castle Jr. has rugby to deal with the pressures of high school. Fights with his girlfriend, his dad’s constant blame game and graduation anxieties all work out on the field. Every pass, tackle and scrum works out a kink.

That is until rugby gets suspended.

Without rugby as an outlet he has no idea how to deal with stress or the feelings of fear plaguing him since the break-in at home. James walked in on a burglar who knocked him out and left him with a concussion.  Now, James keeps seeing a little girl with pigtails everywhere. Great, he can add delusional to the list of shit he can’t deal with.

What makes the situation weirder, if that’s possible, is this little girl looks a lot like the new girl at his school, Claudia.
He can’t explain the connection he feels to Claudia, it’s not lust or friendship even, but it’s there.
Everything ties to one event; a hit and run accident he was the victim of fourteen years ago. An accident he doesn’t remember. An accident his father never told him about. An accident that wasn't in fact an accident. It seems someone from his father’s past is hellbent on revenge and this time they plan to make sure James is dead. James will have to remember the past or else be caught in a killer's crosshairs

Book 3 ... does it have a name yet?

As you may or may not know, I'm working on book three in my vampire series ADIB. Tentatively titled After Death, though the name may and probably will change. What else you may not know is that this book is slowly killing me. The Fugees wrote their Killing me Softly song just for me and this book.

Just kidding!! Kind of. In the words of the great Shakespeare, "parting is such sweet sorrow", that is where I find myself now. Sad that when this book is done Callum and Lendyn's story will be over. [Cue sad, tear jerking music here]

Anyway, how about I give you a sample of book 3 ... just a sliver. I picked a random chunk. Hope you enjoy.

I started connecting the polka dots on my skirt in an effort to distract myself so I didn’t think about the question nagging me.
He placed his hand over mine, his thumb rubbing against my wrist, disrupting the square I was building with the dots around my hands. “Ask,” his voice whispered in my ear.
Man if only those shots would kick in then maybe this conversation might not be so damn awkward. I took a deep breath. “How do you know—”
Callum cut me off, “Please don’t doubt my feelings for you, just because I haven’t loved anyone else doesn’t mean I don’t know what it is. Would loving countless women somehow make my love for you more sincere.”
“No.” I met his eye, “No it wouldn’t.”
He kissed my forehead and then pulled away, “Yet, you still looked troubled.”
My mind shifted gears, “But you said you’ve been with one, you know,” I swallowed, “woman?”
He nodded.
“I mean physically you’ve only been with one?”
“Is there something wrong with that?”
I shifted in my seat. He’d only had one lover and he’d never been in love before. It’s not that I didn’t believe him I guess it worried me a little. All this build-up and anticipation from waiting. What if it turned out to be a disaster? I met his eye. No worries, I could train him.
His brow scrunched, “What?”
“Nothing, it’s surprising is all. You’re 280 years old, I’m thirty-one, practically a baby by comparison yet I’m the experienced one, it’s just weird.”
He seemed confused or maybe he was upset. Did I hurt his feelings? “Honestly, there’s nothing wrong with it, I mean there really isn’t.” I’m not sure if I was trying to comfort him or convince myself it didn’t bother me.
He scooted closer, his hand resting on the tip of my left knee, his grip tightening there. “Would it help if I said I thought my one time could become something like love?”
“Hell no it wouldn’t, that would make it worse.” His hand moved higher. “Not only does that make me insanely jealous, but it also makes you seem all virginal like one day,” oh my god my face was flaming,  “I’ll deflower you or something.”
He arched his brow. God he was handsome. “Deflower?”
His hand moved higher up my leg resting over my thigh. His fingertips skimmed the hem of my dress. He leaned over, his lips right at my ear. “Are you worried I can’t satisfy you?”
“No,” my voice squeaked. Of course I was, but I couldn’t tell him that. My attention turned to his hand which he then slid up under the fabric of my dress. He whispered, “You are afraid that I’ll be a bumbling fool?”

Did you know ...? A post all about what I'm writing now and next and blahblahblah

Did you know that my life as a writer started when I was pregnant with my second boy? I had just finished my fifth or sixth read through of Harry Potter and was left going "now what?" And thus I started writing. In the beginning I started reading all the books I could find on writing ... on editing ... on plots ... on characters ... on grammar. I took classes, mostly online, and then I plunged head-first into the world of writing. It was in the seas of writing while trying to tread water but mostly drowning that I learned of a forum. It was a magical forum where other wannabe writers talked, shared, laughed and mostly gave each other encouragement (I also happened to meet Colleen Hoover there long before Slammed became a NY Times bestseller).

It was through this forum that I met some amazing people and five particular women who became my betas. Later they became my sounding boards and then even later became my everything in the writing world. One of these wonderful women, Jen Kreft (find her here http://kreftontheblock.blogspot.com), invited me to do a writing blog hop. See of the two of us, (though she claims to have as many technology deficiencies as me, which she doesn't but that's neither here nor there), Jen knows her writing stuff so if she tells me to do it, I do. So without further ado, but a whole lot of prodding from Jen is my post on writing.

 1. What am I currently working on?

As of today I'm working on book three in my vampire series ADIB. It's the final book and ties up everything and it's making me a total mess. To say "no pressure" is a lie. There's so much pressure that yesterday after I took a shower and went to clean my ears I actually saw some of my brain oozing out. Have you ever tickled your brain through your ear with a q-tip? Needless to say I looked like a dog whose owner had found her favorite scratching spot. But on a more serious note I love this series and want the final book to blow the other two out of the water.

 2. How does my work differ from others of its genre?

You got me. I'm still working on figuring out genres. Books never fit neatly into a box, although you'd think they would since they're rectangular, but whatever. I do know that my female MC is bi-racial. Which is a trend I'm seeing more and more that makes me happy. Since I can only be me it's awesome to read books where the MC is different from me. Either by sex, race, religion or even sexual orientation, I love it!! Diversity in books? One word, WONDERFUL.

  3. Why do I write what I do?

I will say no matter what I write, whether it be paranormal, YA, or sciency (so not a word but should be) there is always a romance. You ask why and I'll tell you why, because I'm a romantic, because I'm in love with love. Personally, I don't believe there is nothing more powerful or more beautiful than two people falling in love. Probably makes me terribly sappy but I can't help it I love love man!! I totally just sounded like an aging hippie.

 4. How does your writing process work?

Okay here's a visual to end all visuals, picture a monkey. Are you picturing it? Is he skinny? Hairy? Maybe has a bald butt? Okay, now that you have your monkey I want you to imagine said monkey picking up a pile of his poo and flinging it at the wall. Can you see it? Is it making you laugh? Because it's totally making me laugh. You and your monkey just hanging out flinging poo. HAHAHAHA!!! Well that's me only instead of poo its words and I fling them and some stick and are actually pretty good, but some? Man some stink.

So now I'm passing the mic to another woman in my writing group. As I mentioned she's part of my everything and her name is Marianne. She's an amazing writer and I hope to the heavens an agent snaps her up and prints her words because they are awesome. Without further ado I give you the amazing, the wonderful, the silly Marianne http://mtsheldon.wordpress.com/.

Author Rochelle Paige

I absolutely adore reading - always have and always will. My friends growing up used to tease me when I would trail after them, trying to read and walk at the same time. If I have downtime, odds are you will find me reading or writing.

I am the mother of two wonderful sons who have inspired me to chase my dream of being an author. I want them to learn from me that you can live your dream as long as you are willing to work for it.

When I told my mom that my new year's resolution was to self-publish a book in 2013, she pretty much told me "About time!"

I fell in love with Manda Baker eight years ago, and I loved her to the core of her soul. We were supposed to have that elusive happily ever after and spend a lifetime together. But that was all before she was STOLEN from me.

Her best friend, Sarah Erickson, killed her. It wasn’t intentional. It was far worse. Everyone claims it was just an accident, but I can see through the lies. Even if it’s with my dying breath, I will make her pay for what she did.

Fate hates me. It robbed me of my first love and left me to navigate through this world emotionless and numb. Then, one day, spiteful fate gave me a woman to fill my shattered soul and make me feel again. It gave me Emma Jane Erickson. I said a hip to blog hop and you don't stop

I've never done a blog hop before but when the lovely Steph Nuss asked me I thought I'd give it a whirly whirl. So in the spirit of getting to know other indie authors and me here goes.

 1. What am I working on?

I am currently working on book 3 in the ADIB series. It's currently untitled as titles usually come to me closer to the end of the story. ADIB is about vampires, something I'm a bit gaga over. I've watched every vampire movie made. Some are better than othera (James Wood I'm looking at you). And if I do say so myself the third one is shaping up to be my favorite. It should be out October 31. O_o

 2. How does my work differ from others in this genre?

That's a tough one. I'm gonna come back to this because I've never been good at seeing the forest for the trees so to speak.

 3. Why do I write what I do?

Although this series is vampire based most of my stories have a paranormal element involved in the romance. I won't lie I'm obsessed with things that deviate from the norm. Werewolves, witches, vampires, ghosts, aliens, big foot, all of it fascinates me. It's as far from reality as you can get which is why I like to write about it. I want to make the fantasy feel as real as possible.

 4. How does your writing process work?

BUAHAHAHAHAHA!!! Process would imply there's some sort of method to my madness. There isn't, all there is is a lot of Coke Zero, pickles and dark chocolate, me and my computer. Thank you

I raise both of my hands up in the air. “All right, I’m out of here before you two start going at it in front of us.” I head for the door and stride into the hallway. I make it halfway to my room before strong arms pull my body back into a masculine, warm chest. The scent of James clings to my nostrils, and I can’t help the shaky breath that escapes my throat.
Peppermint and cedar and clean laundry.
“So that’s how it is? You’re just going to leave me with those two?” James whispers into my ear. Pieces of my dark locks blow away from my face.
“You got it, and I’m finding a hell of a lot of enjoyment out of it, too.” I close my eyes and fight the urge to turn into his embrace and kiss the daylights out of him.
James runs his fingers up and down my arms, creating a path of chill bumps. “It’s been two months. How long are you going to hold that night against me?”
I swallow against the dryness in my mouth, trying to gain some semblance of a hold on the sexual frustration that’s coursing through my veins. “Forever.
James laughs into my hair and rubs his nose back and forth against my neck. “You can keep making these weak threats, but I’m just going to tell you one thing. They aren’t scaring me into giving up. I’ll keep trying, doll. I’ll keep trying until you can’t resist me and my persistent charm”
Persistent charm? Pffft.
I step away from his embrace and turn to face him, his green eyes filled with heat, intensity, and an overpowering amount of raw, sexual pull. I take a much-needed breath. I need to force air into my lungs and gain at least an iota of defiance and pride. “I never make weak threats, Dr. Limp Dick.”
Dr. Limp Dick?” The jerk smiles at mefucking smiles at meand it feels like a slap across the face. The nickname has zero effect on him. It doesn’t put a dent in that ego-filled suit he seems to don with an impressive amount of confidence.
“Yes, Dr. Limp Dick. I think that name suits you well. Extremely well. Don’t you agree?”
“The fact that you even took the time to come up with that tells me one thing…” He pauses, obviously waiting for my stubborn pride to chime in.
“What exactly does it tell you?” I spat out, my irritation rising to new heights.
“That you’ve been thinking about me. A lot. Don’t worry, baby. I’ve been thinking about you too.” He leans in close, too close, and it feels like all of the oxygen has been sucked out of the room.
Anger courses through my bloodstream, my heart pounds loudly in my chest. Thump. Thump. Thump. My pulse sounds magnified inside of my ears. How can one man find a way to make me so infuriated? I hear a loud smack echo in the hallway and realize that my fury has now pushed me over the edge. I just smacked James clear across the face; a faint red handprint remains on his cheek. He lifts his hand and lightly rubs his jaw before grinning back at me.
“Beautiful and feisty. Now I’m really never going to give up,” he adds, completely unaffected.
“You’re such an asshole!” I shriek back at him before turning on my heels, stomping towards my bedroom, and slamming my door shut. I lean up against the wall and sigh loudly in frustration, my fists clenched tightly to my sides. What a prick! I mean, who in the hell does he think he is?! My breath is fast and hard, and my chest heaves up and down violently. I see my reflection in the mirror across from my door and can’t ignore the prominent outline of my nipples visible through my shirt.
God dammit!
